The order comes with 4 HUGEEE crispy warm and delicious empanadas that we literally devoured in like 5 minutes tops. I'm not a fan of cilantro but I really did like the sauce! My favorite of all the dishes was definitely the beef empanadas. I really enjoyed it though! Like I said about he cheese balls earlier, we basically got a double order but these came plain with a cilantro crema sauce. It is a very sweet and islandy sauce with barely any spicy kick. For those of you who are not fans of sweet BBQ sauce: beware. But anyways! The smothered pork goodness is delicious! It came out hot and gooey with a mound of cheese and barbecue sauce. We unfortunately didn't read into the description enough so there was a little too much fried cheese on the table for our liking haha. The same cheese balls that come with the smothered pork goodness. Our choices ended up being the smothered pork goodness, beef empanadas, and this other thing I can't remember the name of but it was basically cheese balls with sauce haha. We weren't exactly super hungry so we decided to stick to the small plates and appetizer portion of the menu. My boyfriend opted for a bahama mama which was really delicious too! Bahama breeze's drinks are on the pricey side, ranging from $7-12 so two can already become a costly bill. I am seriously in love with this drink, but definitely not the price haha. I decided to try the painkiller per recommendation of our waitress and I honestly think it is my new favorite cocktail! It is so full of coconut flavor with the tiniest hints of citrus and nutmeg. Plus this place was packed so it had to be good right ?! We were seated in a booth towards the back which was nice because we were away from the hustle and bustle of the outside bar. I already knew I was in for a treat as soon as I scanned the restaurant and saw the decorations and ambience melding together to form the perfect little island paradise in the middle of good ol' VA beach. I already can't wait to come back and try more of their delicious cocktails and food! I have heard so many mixed reviews of this place but my boyfriend and I decided to finally give it a shot. Service was excellent and our server remained fast and attentive. The chicken, on the other hand, was kinda dry and wasn't enough to accompany the rest of the salad, IMO. It was a nice size and the dressing complemented it well. Instead I opted for the grilled chicken and tropical fruit salad. Now maybe I'm just spoiled with authentic Caribbean food from the area because ordering ox tail or jerk chicken from a chain restaurant seemed out of the question for me. Again, their drinks are what stand out for me so instead of getting one drink I decided to get the Mama's Hooch and Holler, which were 3 samples of their Bahama Mama, One Love and Goombay Smash, all of which were okay but I think next time I'll stick to the Painkiller, these samples tasted more like juice. Not the traditional croquettes I've had at Cuban restaurants, but they were flavorful. I decided to start off with the chicken croquettes. My friend raved about the empanadas and placed an order. My most recent visit years later was on a Saturday night and were they BUSY! We were told it would be about a 25 minute wait, which I didn't mind, I was enjoying the music from the one-man band on the steel drums while catching a bit of the football playoffs near the bar. We had dessert too! The bill was reasonable given all we'd eaten.I've only visited this place twice (once for dinner and another time for drinks) I wasn't a fan of the food and it was the drinks that won me over. All eaten and washed down with Special Cocktails, Beer and soft drinks. I had a fish meal, there black bean burgers, steak, and tacos, not a complaint from any of us. We chose really mixed meals from the menu and our Son chose the Goat Curry which we he was game enough to try. There was a good choice of cocktails, drinks and beers. He recommended a few thing and then left us to decide, whist he went for our drinks. He took time and explained the different dishes we asked about and told us if they were mild, medium or spicy. We asked quite a lot of questions about the menu. There was plenty of room, we dined just before 8pm and we were seated straight away. We didn't know what to expect as this was a first for us all.
